Annual Events

A number of annual events take place in Abernethy and the list below gives some details of the events and their approximate date each year.

Gala Week

The gala day is held in early June every year. As its name suggests it runs for a week and culminates on the Saturday with the crowning of the gala queen, her procession through the village, an afternoon of events and stalls in the Powrie park and the Gala dance in the evening.

Hill Race

This is part of the Gala Week and is held on the Sunday after Gala Day. The race leaves from the square in the village, proceeds up Castle Law and returns to the square. A considerable feat, try walking it, and then consider that even youngsters in the village take part and complete the course in very respectable times.

Craft Fair

Held in October in the Williamson Hall.
This craft fair is organised by the Friends of the Museum of Abernethy to raise funds for the running of the museum. Stalls are stocked by different crafts people from a wide geographical area and the fair itself presents an opportunity for finding that unusual Christmas Gift.
